| War Hero: 1945 - Rose Kennedy is presented with the Navy Cross, awarded posthumously to Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. for “extraordinary heroism and courage in aerial flight.” The loss of his firstborn son was devastating to Joe Kennedy Sr. who had so much hope for the future of his beloved namesake. He therefore turned his attention to his next eldest son, Jack. Shortly after the war ended, John Fitzgerald Kennedy's political career began. |
